On August 16, 2023, Emi Rowse (Igusa) contributed to an interactive and dynamic event entitled “The Hottest Seat in International Arbitration Debate”, organised by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Thailand Branch (CIArb) and the Thailand Arbitration Center (THAC).
Organised by Dr Vanina Sucharitkul (Chair of CIArb Thailand Chapter) and representatives from the THAC, the panel was moderated by Dr. Roland Amoussou (author of “The Seat is King”). The debate provided a platform for each speaker to present a popular seat in international arbitration and talk about the strengths of their respective seats.

As a Hong Kong qualified lawyer, Emi presented information and evidence that supports HK as a preferable seat for arbitration proceedings. She used the acronym “ONE” to demonstrate the unique features of HK that distinguishes itself from other popular arbitral seats such as Singapore, London and Paris. The diverse panel enhanced the discussion and this hybrid event enabled the audience to actively participate and vote on their “favourite” arbitral seat.
